The Wisconsin fight
On 23 April 2026 the Wisconsin Department of Justice sued Kalshi, Robinhood, Coinbase, Polymarket, Crypto.com and their affiliates, alleging that their sports event contracts are illegal sports betting under state law. The cases moved to federal court the next day. On 28 April the CFTC sued Wisconsin, arguing that federal law gives it exclusive jurisdiction over these markets. A federal judge denied the CFTC's request for a preliminary injunction, and that ruling is now on appeal at the Seventh Circuit. As of 18 October 2026, no court has issued a final ruling.
